StencilGirl® Squared Off Swap Hop

Hello and welcome! You have arrived at the StencilGirl® Creative Team’s Spectacular Squared-Off Swap Hop.

I swore off hops, swaps, and anything with deadlines, but being the paper-painting-loving FOOL that I am, I couldn’t resist this one.

Papers and ripping
The papers I received, swoon!

Here’s the deal. You had to paint up 4 squares of paper and mail them into the Lovely She-who-keeps-StencilGirl-a-well-oil-machine, Carol Baxter. She swapped them up, and mailed them back out.

The only instruction — CREATE!

I was blessed with papers from Kristen Peterson, Sumla & Aditi Mahajon, Belen Sotelo, and Louise Nelson. They were great – a mix of textures and colors. I was very thankful for the graphic black & white piece.

As an avoid paper-person, I also cannot pass up purchasing little notebooks when I trip across them. Hmmm. Paper + Notebook = Perfect Project!.

Stencilgirl papers
Notebooks and Gel Medium

Using my handy-dandy metal ruler to rip the papers into rectangles and squares, I then adhered them randomly to the journal using Gel Medium (a little heavier because of the heavy texture and weight of some of the papers.)

Love the numbers and this delicious Deli Paper print.

A trick to integrating these papers together is to use a transparent spray and/or paint to unify the piece a bit. I used Walnut spray first and then a little Golden Fluid Acrylic paint to achieve that goal.

Integration and Grunge paste through a stencil

Using StencilClub Stencil from June 2018, Habicht, I applied some of Paper Artsy’s Grunge Paste with a handy Yellow Scraper. Once dry, I sprayed and painted to integrate the texture into the journal a bit.

Next, I took a white pen to bring a few highlights back to the front of the journal. Finally, I dug into my stash of beads, buttons, strings, cord, and Sari Ribbon to create a fun tableau on the binding. Voila! Big fun!

The more blogs you comment on the more chances you have a chance to win one of four $25 gift certificates for stencils from StencilGirl® Products. Comment by May 3, 2019. Winner notified by email May 6th.
