Friends Making Art Eating Chocolate on Fridays

Candy ValVal - Alabama ChaninMy art and small business guru friend Krystie Brinkley of Sliver Chics fame (like her page on Facebook here) helped me come to a realization few weeks ago that I was fretting over my business too much without enjoying it. I mean, helllooooooooo, I get to come to work to an art studio every. day. But, I’m not making near as much art as I want to be making. And, although I love it when the place is hopping full of wonderful folks taking classes, I end up in “hostess mode,” and am missing out on some quality time. Wahh Wahhh. So….

My new *thing* is inviting 1-3 friends to come play in my studio with me on Fridays while we eat chocolate, gab and enjoy the space. Fun, right???

Friday, October 30th Rose Hughes (Rose Hughes Quilt Artist), Valerie Pollard and I launched my Friday Fun with Friends. Rose and Val are great pals, teachers and students here at Ephemera Paducah. Rose’s beautiful art quilts usually adorn my walls and Val is wonderful at re-purposing items like ceramics and glassware into Garden Totems.

We started off helping out our Lower Town Day Care, Posh Academy, on their Halloween Walk around the Block. So stinking cute. Val and Rose just had a few hours so we wedged a little arting in after handing out candy and a much-needed lunch.Rose worked on curriculum for her upcoming on-line Color Class and Val showed her class scarf  from an Alabama Chanin (swoon) Workshop she took the first of the month in Nashville. She is also a prolific knitter and knit on a beautiful prayer shawl for a mutual friend fighting cancer.

I am in an assembly line process for Glittery Snowmen to sell in our upcoming Holiday Artisan Market! I’ve had the most fun needlefelting hats for them. I’m not sure I know what I’m doing, but I get very excited when they start to take shape!

Oh! The chocolate part! Rose’s favorite candy bar is Dark Milky Way and Val’s is Almond Joy. Me… today it’s Butterfinger!
