Sewn cuffsJoin Sunny for a fun day of cutting things up and sewing them back together! Using a base of wool felt, we will add interesting elements,  a tad of needle felting, and tons of imagination to create a cuff (or 2 if you are a fast worker!). We will do some freehand stitching on sewing machines and Sunny will also discuss her method of hand dyeing wool felt.

Your $10 Kit Fee includes:

  • Wool Roving
  • Felting needle and use of needle felting surface
  • Embroidery needle
  • Magnetic clasp(s)
  • Access to share table of wool felt, embroidery floss, buttons and such

 Students should bring the following:

  • If you have one and are driving to the workshop — Bring a sewing machine in good working order, extension cord, and a freehand (darning) foot so you can learn to freehand stitch on your own machine — Otherwise, we’ll have a couple to share.
  • Thread for sewing machine or hand sewing- black & neutral colors
  • Small scissors, clear ruler, cutting mat and rotary cutter
  • We can’t guarantee colors of wool felt, so please bring wool felt in the colors you like if this is important to you! Wool felt or wool blend felt can be found on Etsy by searching “Wool Felt.” Tiny amounts are needed as we will be cutting them up and stitching the pieces back together. We will also have some for sale in the shop.
  • Same with embroidery floss, bring some if you have a color theme in mind! We sell this, too.
  • Buttons or charms that you like (the ones on the cuff in the pic were made by  Sunny, and she will bring some if anyone wants to buy them to use on their cuffs)

In this class, you will learn how to paint a whimsical, fun character, using a variety of techniques and supplies. We will discuss different face shapes, body shapes, the value of idea journals and Sunny’s method of putting it all together in a humorous, interesting way.

Students should bring the following:

Or, email Kristin and I’ll have them waiting for you at the shop!

  • Brushes for Watercolor Paint –sable size 4 and 6. The brushes do not have to be expensive but they do need to be specifically for watercolor paint.
  • Watercolor Paint – QOR (a Golden line of paints) is highly recommended, but you can use whatever brand you like. Sunny has a plastic travel pallet with all my colors already inside so she’s ready to start at a moment’s notice. The QOR are recommended because it comes in tubes and the colors are super-bright. She has used the pan-type pallets, as well. Use what you like.
  • A tube of white gouache or white gesso or a Graphix white paint marker (any of these will work for adding highlights back in).
  • Watercolor paper –Sunny is currently in love with the line of pads called “Fluid Easy Block”. They come in pads of 15 sheets (bound on 2 sides), lots of different sizes and are inexpensive. They are great for travel and the paper is very nice. They come in Hot Press (smooth) or Cold Press (slightly rougher texture). We’ll have the 8″ x 8″ Hot Press in stock.
  • Faber Castell Pitt Pens in sizes S and XS. You can use other brands as long as they have permanent Indian Ink. After using all brands, the Faber Castell are Sunny’s favorite and she doesn’t use other brands.
  • Optional: A dip pen with a flexible nib and a bottle of Indian Ink. Sunny uses the dip pen on every painting but sometimes the Indian Ink doesn’t travel well and leaks so she always put the little bottle inside a plastic bag just in case.
  • Optional: A few Faber Castell Pitt Pens in colors. Sunny uses the size S not the brush tips for adding details on top of color. These are relatively inexpensive and really add something to the image.
  • Your big imagination!!!!

Those desiring to take both of Sunny’s workshops receive a discounted rate and may pay $99 to hold their spots. The $160.00 balance would be due on or before 7/1/2017. For those taking advantage of the deposit system to hold your spot in the full weekend of classes, the balance of payment can be made via PayPal on this page.
