In this class, we will explore tons of spontaneous techniques that focus on printmaking, surface design, collage, and painting – all with the intent to make interesting component parts for our art journal and other mixed media projects.spontaneous intent

In our first half-day, we will make a Collagraph plate and experiment with several types of printmaking, using Golden Open Acrylic Paints to create beautiful painted papers. We will make marks, fling paint, tear paper and then pull it all together in beautifully layered journal spreads.

art journaling Expect to learn specific ways to design a layout, ramp up the visual interest and fully integrate the page. We will use acrylic and watercolor products including paint, ink, texture medium, pencils, markers, and pastels.

Any level of student is welcome and prior students will find lots of new techniques to expand their mixed media repertoire

Students should bring to class (to have any supplies waiting for you, zip Kristin an email:

  • Strathmore 500 series Soft Cover journal, either size. Students may also wish to have a second journal on hand so they can navigate back and forth.
  • Soft rubber brayer
  • spray bottle
  • scissors
  • palette
  • brushes for painting
  • UHU glue stick
  • metal ruler
  • Gel plate (if you own one, otherwise we’ll have some available to share)
  • pencil & your favorite pens
  • optional craft mat,

Mary Beth will bring all the acrylic and watercolor paints, mediums, gessos and other supplies to make Collagraph plates. She will furnish crayons, markers, inks, papers, stamps, stencils and collage items.

If you have specific things you know you want to use, feel free to bring a small selection.


Lunch Saturday, as well as snacks & drinks daily, are provided. Chocolate is an Art Supply at Ephemera Paducah!

The minimum age to participate is 18 (those 16-17 allowed if accompanied by an adult also registered for class).

The minimum needed to make this class is 10; the maximum is 20.


We are offering three (3) Early Bird Seats but you must grab them before November 1st.

You may register for this workshop by making a deposit of $99 which allows you to pay over time. Please note that your $99 deposit is nonrefundable but is applied to your balance. Your balance ($260) is due no later than September 1, 2020, and can be made via PayPal or Credit card on this page or by mailing a check to Ephemera Paducah. Not paying the balance on or before the due dates results in the loss of your deposit and class seat.
