Secret Garden Blooms – My passion for layers + painting join = forever a brighter life.

Kelli Is a HOOT. Here’s an interview with her talking about life, workshops, and meeting the sweetest ever, Pearl Button!! Click: Kelli May-Krenz Interview.

Years spent illustrating and being a graphic designer show up in a totally new way when I start painting florals. I will take you step-by-step (even if you have never painted in your life) you can do this!

You will learn how to look at botanicals, flowers and see them as simple shapes. Adding layers of paper under some of our paintings for a rich texture. We will take pages of our marks and create a whole painting with these bits.
So many techniques will be shared with you to use in your journal making and other mixed media artwork.
You will have three complete paintings when you leave and a full basket of new ideas, inspiration, and yes, cool artwork by you!
I have combined ONE truly fabulously packed and blooming secret garden for you.

Students should bring to class:

  • A basic tool kit
    • Journal to swipe extra paint and take notes in
    • Your favorite pens
    • 3-4 paintbrushes in a variety of sizes – your favs but make sure you have a fine round tip
    • Scissors
    • Glue Stick
    • White Uni-Ball Signo pen (we have them in the shop, too)
  • 4-6 colors of your favorite acrylic paints/ink
  • Three (3) Cradled Wooden Boards – your preferred size. 6′ x6″, 10″x 10″ or 12″x 12″
  • Most of all…Bring the desire to create freely using my perfectly imperfect techniques and your cheery self!

(email Kristin if you’d like to have any supplies waiting for you):

Kelli will provide a beautifully curated Handmade Class Kit containing vintage papers, black paper, a few acrylic paints, white pencil, variety of mark-making items, sandpaper, embroidery thread + needle, a variety of surprise goodies.
