Cacti – Art Journaling Workshop
September 7, 2018 | 10 am – 4 pm

Price: $166  Lunch, drinks, snacks are included as well as all day instruction and guidance through the process, total access to instructor’s materials and art supplies, and a take-home handout featuring all of the step-by-steps in the class!

Art journaling meets illustration in this mixed media art journal workshop “Cacti”. This class takes you through the process of creating a two-page spread that uses succulents and cacti as a visual focal point. Through guided step-by-step instruction, you will build up a mixed media foundation layer using ephemera and acrylic paint. With a foundation layer complete, the class then further explores: planning a composition, the use of a split-complimentary color palette, observational drawing, and unique illustration techniques using both acrylic paint, ink, and/or watercolor.

Students should bring:

  • An art journal! This can be a book that you will alter, an altered book journal you’ve already started, or a blank art journal of your choosing.
  • A few sheets of wax paper Acrylic paint – bring variety, and be sure to have some colors in ‘pairs’ that are in the same color family (example: a light pink and darker pink, or a light and dark blue).
  • Paint brushes in various sizes – have both large and detail (smaller detail brushes are a must!)art journaling by bun
  • Matte gel medium
  • Ephemera of your choosing: old photos, paper scraps, magazine cut outs, etc. Bring a variety!
  • Scissors and a water container for your brushes
  • Matte liquid varnish (you do not need a lot of this, so a small travel size will work!)
  • Oil pastels – maybe just 2 or 3 colors you are drawn to
  • Travel watercolor paint set and/or liquid acrylic inks. Try to at least have a black or grey!
  • Mark making tools – pitt pens, gel pens, or any other pens you like to use

We will have all of the above items in stock, as wellIf you would like to have any supplies waiting for you, please zip Kristin an email.

Fantastical Fauna – Art Journaling Workshop
September 8, 2018 | 10 am – 4 pm

This mixed media class takes you through the process of creating a two-page art journal spread inspired by Surrealism that includes an illustrated animal. What makes these animals unique however, is that they are in a state of transparency: complete with bones, organs, and unique illustrative details. Through guided step-by-step instruction, we will build up an initial background layer using a variety of mixed media techniques. With our background layer complete, you will then learn how to plan, contour draw, and fully illustrate your own fantastical fauna…

Students should bring: art journaling by bun

  • A book that you will alter, an altered book journal you’ve already started, or an art journal of your choosing.
  • A few sheets of wax paper (that are about the size of your book pages)
  • Acrylic paint (bring colors you gravitate to, be sure you have both white & black)
  • Liquid acrylic paint
  • Graphite pencil & eraser
  • Paint brushes in various sizes (including smaller detail brushes – this is a must for this class!)
  • Matte gel medium
  • Ephemera of your choosing: old photos, paper scraps, magazine images, found pieces of paper, bits of mail, photocopies of imagery you love…etc.
  • Scissors & a water container for your brushes
  • Liquid matte varnish (we don’t use a lot of this, so a travel-sized amount is okay!
  • Oil pastels (just bring one or two colors you’re drawn to)
  • Mark making tools – Pitt pens, gel pens, or any other pens you like to use. For the fauna illustration, I suggest bringing at least one pen dedicated to detailing (like Pitt Pens – Faber-Castell brand, tip size S or XS will work!).

We will have all of the above items in stock, as wellIf you would like to have any supplies waiting for you, please zip Kristin an email.

Mini Art Journals
