Leslie will be teaching two (2) workshops over the 3-day weekend. Take one or both (but save $$ if you take both)!

Wanderlust – an Embossed Planner

During this two-day workshop, Leslie will guide you in creating a rich 8” by 10” leather wanderlustjournal cover designed to hold up to four replaceable inserts. You will make three pamphlet-stitched book inserts — a calendar as well as two blank books — that can be used however you see fit. Using a simple system of elastic cording, the book will organize things the way you’d like them organized.

Following a pattern or drawing freehand, you will craft a pewter frame to hold a resin-coated photo for your book’s cover using simple tools and styluses. (You can email your photo for sizing and printing before the class or choose a supplied image.)

In addition, you will learn the addictive, but simple, technique of brayer-printing for your insert covers using leaves and water-soluble inks.

Leslie says, “I’ve created hundreds of books over the years, but this is the one that I’d be lost without. Whether you’re using it to record memories, keep track of your daily schedule, or simply jot down notes, Wanderlust is an excellent companion. The design is simple but elegant.

Sweetheart Pincushionsweetheart pincushions

During World War 1, “sweetheart pincushions” were made by convalescing and disabled British soldiers and sailors who stitched them as they recovered and sent them home to loved ones as expressions of affection. We live in a world where loved ones are just a phone call or text message away, and it is difficult to imagine the extended separation from our loved ones that folks endured during this time. Just imagine the rush of emotion the recipients of these tokens must have felt receiving them!

Many examples of these vintage “sweetheart pincushions” can be found in museums, and Leslie was fortunate to acquire one herself. Working from examples found through research, and with her vintage pincushion in hand, she has created patterns and collected materials so that you can create your own 6” pincushion!
