Price: $159 plus $20 Materials Fee paid to the instructor the day of class. Lunch, drinks & snacks are included!
Minimum 5; Maximum 20. Minimum age to participate is 16 and students aged 12-15 welcome with a registered adult.
During this one-day workshop, participants will make a wrapped felt book that will be bound together using gathered sticks and a very simple binding. Students will learn the magic of eco printing – the art of coaxing beautiful prints onto paper and fabric – for their books using leaves, heat, and water.
Your $20 Materials Fee covers everything needed to complete a 6.5″ by 5″ book similar as shown:
- Wool felt
- Silk Noil
- Ball of household string
- Paper (torn to fit) for 20-30 pages (BFK Rives, Strathmore Aquarius II, or similar)
- Waxed linen thread
- Needles
- Leather lace
- Lace and fabric embellishments (I will bring plenty, but folks are welcome to bring their own)
- Beads
- Embroidery floss
- Leaves for printing
Students should bring the following:
- Lightweight needle paper awl **
- Bone folder**
- Scissors
- Thimble
- Pencil
**There will be some to share, and we will have these for sale in the shop

Over this two-day workshop, Leslie will show you how to solder, stamp and embellish book covers, and how to bind them into a treasured book using Coptic binding – a technique that has been used since the second century. At the same time, she will show students how to coax beautiful prints onto paper for your pages using leaves, heat,and water. While we will be dyeing paper during the workshop, Leslie will talk about how the same process can be applied to dyeing fabric, and students will dye a small piece of wool felt to make a bag to hold their book.
Your $25 Materials Fee includes everything necessary to complete a 4- by 6-inch—inch book similar to shown:
- Brass sheeting cut to size
- Solder and flux
- Stampings, chain and findings to attach to the cover
- Photo and resin
- Paper torn to size for eco-printing and inside pages
- Eyelets
- Wool felt
- Leather lace
- Waxed linen thread
- Needles
- Printout of binding technique
Students should bring the following
- Small cutting mat
- Lightweight needle paper awl (we will have some for sale in the shop)
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Ultra fine Sharpie
- Chasing hammer**
- Eyelet setter 1/8″**
- A ball of household string**
- Bone folder**
- Mechanical pencil
- Bench block **
- Safety glasses
