Mixed Media Favorites WEEKEND collage papers

We are offering this as a series class in July, but for you fans who can’t get here on a random Tuesday afternoon, we’re packaging it up as a Mixed Media Weekend! Bringing back a little “Mixed Media Club” and some experience teaching Art Journaling for the past number of years, here’s a new offering for folks brand new and experienced to this type of art.

We’ll go from 1 – 5  pm on Friday and for those interested head out for a group dinner that evening at 6:00 (separate checks). Put in a full day Saturday starting at 10 am, enjoy a pizza and salad lunch, and finish up at 5 pm. Sunday morning we’ll get going at 9 am and have everyone on the road by 1 pm.

If there’s a group of you who would like to stay in The Loft (it sleeps a maximum of 8 friends in 6 beds), email me, Kristin, ASAP to reserve (Rate is $650 plus a $65 cleaning fee for Friday & Saturday nights). Everyone staying in The Loft needs to be registered for the weekend, as well. Otherwise, a few weeks before class I will send an email out to those registered with prices on a per bed basis. Check out our Travel to Paducah page for other lodging recommendations.

Your weekend will include: collage collage

PaperPalooza: Friday afternoon 1:00 AM – 5 pm

You’ll get a stack of cool papers and be shown a number of ways to alter them through stamping, embossing, sanding, dripping alcohol inks, sprays, and texture tools. We’ll break out the CitraSolv and Never Dull and see what we can get out of the National Geographic pages, too. You’ll be playing with Deli Paper, Ricepaper, textured paper and whatever else I throw into the mix. Use the papers in your own collage, card making, art journaling, etc.

Mini Collage Collage: Saturday, 10:00 AM – 12:30 pm

Using canvases that are 4″ and smaller, images from magazines & photographs, ephemera, 3-D objects, and a limited color palette, we’ll create 5-7 mini collages and then put them together to create a larger one. Collage Collage, get it?

Gel Printing – Adorned Journal:  Saturday, 1 – 5  pm

Gel Printing is soooo addictive! And so much fun! We will spend the first 1.5 hours making beautiful printed papers with Deli Paper, regular paper, and acrylic paints among other fun things. Then we’ll clean up while our papers finish drying and prepare to adorn regular composition books into colorful journals! You will adhere your papers to the journal and dig through the Studio stash of beads and ribbon ending up with a Mixed Media Masterpiece for your deepest thoughts.

The Big Hot Mess: Reductive Painting Sunday, 9:00 AM – 12:30 pm reductive painting

We will use almost every supply in the Studio. Using two 8″ x 10″ panels, we will stencil, stamp, drip, roll, texture, and whatever else I can think of.  Then, after we get it to the indulgent level of wonderfulness, you’ll scream because I will make you cover up most of one of them. You’ll comply, will see, and be glad. I make my Art Journaling students do this and they always love the result

Students should bring:

  • Your Art Journal (or start one as you’ll need a place to take notes and swipe excess paint)
  • A Box of Unscented Baby Wipes
  • Your Gelli Plate or Gel Press printing plate, if you have one, (to cut down on wait time.)
  • You can take the chances on the notebook you’ll choose from our Studio Stash or bring one to ensure the size you like. It should have a cardboard cover, not plastic. Bound composition books work great.
  • Small items for collage including photographs, 3-D items, ephemera and copies of precious keepsakes like letters from your grandma.
  • Favorite pens for scribbling, doodling, and embellishing
  • If there’s a color paint or art supply you can’t live without, bring it, but we’ll have most everything you need.
Three (3) Early Birds save $30 bucks but you’ve got to grab that seat before May 1!

Before registering for this workshop, please familiarize yourself with our Cancellation Policies Updated September 1, 2018.
