I’ve tripped across a great book for those of us (ahem, me) who would like to use watercolor more in art journaling, Bible journaling, card-making, lettering and well, watercoloring! Modern Watercolor – a playful and contemporary exploration of watercolor painting by Kristin Van Leuven is our summer bookclub book.
We all do it. We grab up a book chockful of great ideas, leaf through it, and then let it collect dust on the shelf. A great friend who owns a shop like mine in San Jose has tons of fun using books like this for Book Clubs — meeting weekly over a period of time to learn new techniques together.
I’ve put together four (4) lesson plans and we’ll work through it together over four (4) weekly meetings on Wednesdays starting July 10th from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm! And, you get a copy of the book included in your registration!
Modern Watercolor takes us through the basics of tools and color theory as well as brushstrokes and mark-making. Once we get some of that under our belts, we get to paint botanicals and maybe animals and faces. Whoop!
As watercolor painting can be expensive, this class is priced a few different ways. If you already have the items on the supply list – go with the bare bones pricing. If you don’t have the paints & tools, the pricing for the Full Meal Deal is reflective of a 25% discount off of retail for the items you’ll need. If you just need a few items, email me your list before July 1st and I’ll make sure to have them on hand before the first class.
What you’ll need/use:
- Quality Tube Paints (Golden QoR, Daniel Smith, etc.) in 6-8 colors including a red, blue, and yellow (not pan pants)
- Plastic Palette with wells for your paints
- A variety of watercolor brushes – round, flat and thin
- Watercolor paper – 140 lb Cold Pressed – a block or pad of at least 15 sheets and sized 9 x 12 or larger
- A pencil & eraser
The minimum age to participate is 14. Minimum needed to make this class is 4; the maximum is 10.
