Patience is a dear Lower Town neighbor, animal lover (particularly Whippets), and absolutely obsessed with needle felting. And a Sarafina Certified Instructor! The Sarafina Certification Curriculum serves to certify instructors to teach using Sarafina techniques, products, and structural support. Sarafina Certified Instructors are skilled, understand the potential of the medium, and are able to convey a world of felting possibilities in a helpful, fun, and concise manner.
Needle Felting Workshop
May 27, 2017
5:00 am - 11:00 am
Class size: Minimum 4, Maximum 10; Minimum age to participate 14
Sarafina has a wonderful new kit for all you Harry Potter fans! The Baby Owl is ADORABLE & positionable (its head actually TURNS). It gives you a great introduction to armature-making and is so much stinking fun that Patience can’t quit making them. I already have three (3) shop samples. They just keep showing up!
Once completed, the owl is pretty large compared to some of the “Sleepy” critters we’ve been making lately. It stands about 6-7″ tall. Taller if you fluff its fancy eyebrows and ear tufts!
For those unfamiliar, needle felting is a very tactile and fairly forgivable art form. According to Wikipedia, it is a method of creating felted objects without using water. The special needles used to make 3D sculpture, jewelry, adornments and 2D art have notches along the shaft of the needle that catch fibers and tangle them with other fibers to produce felt. As Patience says in class, “you stab things to life!”
This Workshop is longer than our Needle Felting Meetups have been. We’ll take a 30-minute break for lunch.
You are welcome to brown bag it, or Kristin will take orders and make a lunch run to one of our fine local establishments for those who are interested.
Everything is provided for this class, but you are welcome to bring your own tools. If you have a Digit Widget, make sure and bring it to class.
